Maureen Hegarty, Art Teacher

Maureen, better known as "Ms. Mo," has been enriching children's lives through art for many years at Free Union.

Kent Raine, Music and Drama Teacher

Kent loves being at Free Union and never wants to leave! He lives in North Garden with his wife, Micaela, his daughter, Tulai, and his son, Bohden. Kent was born in Beirut and a childhood full of travel introduced him to many different cultures and perspectives.  At Roanoke College he received a fine arts degree in theater and after college joined the Mill Mountain Theater to work onstage and behind the scenes. His next stint training as a professional violin maker lead to an opportunity to travel to Haiti. It was during this trip that Kent realized that teaching music was where he really belonged. Before too long, he had convinced Carolyn that Free Union Country School needed a guitar-strumming, pork-pie-hat-wearing school troubadour. We have Kent to thank for our fabulous music and drama performances, our newly refurbished playground structures, and the philosophy that it is never too early for lunch. Kent is also in a band, Swing Piggy, and plays over 30 gigs a year.

Sandy Snow, Spanish Teacher

Sandy is passionate about teaching Spanish. She has a number of years experience teaching Spanish in bi-lingual third grade classrooms. She has also designed and taught bi-lingual curricula for adults. Currently, she runs a business devoted to teaching Spanish to groups and individuals of all ages. Luckily, she also makes time for teaching at Free Union!

Tom McIntosh, 2nd - 5th Grade P.E. Teacher

Tom, a graduate of UVA and former commodity trader from Chicago, Illinois, resides with his family in Free Union.  He was first involved at Free Union Country School as a parent, when his three boys were students.  He loved the school so much that he continues to be our P.E. teacher for the older children. When he's not leading a game of two-ball soccer or a wacky relay, Tom likes to hike and bike.

Chol Kim , K/1 P.E. Teacher
