Early
Childhood Program
Our Early
Childhood Program provides enriching activities in an environment that
encourages children to be creative thinkers, active explorers and good
problem solvers. The children are busy each morning with teacher-directed as well as self-selected activities.
The preschool program day is from 9:00 to 12:30 which includes time for snack and lunch. The class size is approximately 12 to 14 students with a Lead and an Assistant Teacher.
We have
2 different classes in this program:
Tuesday/Thursday
Class
This is
designed to meet the developmental needs of 3-year-olds who are potty
trained.
Monday/Wednesday/Friday
Class
This is
designed to meet the social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs
of any child who is developmentally 4 years old.
Extended
Day
Extended
Day takes place from 12:30-3:00 Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those preschool
children ready for a longer school day. This afternoon program includes a state-mandated 1/2 hour
rest period, singing, drama, art and outdoor activities as well as opportunity
for uninterrupted pretend play in the block and house areas.
The
Early Childhood fieldtrips help classroom units come alive, and
might include a hike around a local pond to look at the water plants
and creatures, a trip to Carter's Mountain to pick apples, or a day
at the circus!
Every
child is paired with a buddy in the elementary grades. The
buddies meet each week to read together, do math projects, do art projects
or have fun together on the playground.
